What is Larimar?
 
Larimar is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic and parts of the Caribbean.  Larimar colors can vary from white, light blue, green-blue to deep blue.  Larimar is found in volcanic rocks and is formed when hot fluids containing silica, calcium, and other minerals seep into and fill in cavities within the rock.
 
History of Larimar

Larimar is a precious stone originally discovered on a beach in the Dominican Republic by the locals. It is said that this stone with a rare blue variety was unearthed because of an earthquake in 1974. 
The stone was rediscovered and named by Miguel Mendez after his daughter “Larissa“, and after the Spanish word “mar” which means “sea”. By combining these two words, he gave Larimar meaning.
