Wheat pennies, officially known as Lincoln Wheat Cents, were minted from 1909 to 1958 and can be valuable collectible coins, especially rare dates and high-grade examples.
 
History and Design
The wheat penny is a classic, iconic early 21st-century American coin with a face value of 1 cent.  The Wheat Penny is also known by collectors as the Wheat Cent. The coin is made out of mostly copper, but steel versions of this coin were issued during World War II.  The coin features Abraham Lincoln on the obverse and two stalks of wheat on the reverse, symbolizing prosperity.  The Wheat Penny design was created by sculptor Victor D. Brenner and was the first widely circulating coin to feature a U.S. President.
