This Coin Ring is made from a Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar Coin, (1916-1947), and has been Lazer Engraved with a Cancer Ribbon.  The coloring of the ribbon was done with jeweler paint to make it stand out.  It has been antiqued to show off the detail in the coin.  The United States made Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947.  The Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollars were the replacement for the Barber Silver Half Dollar Coin, (1892-1915).  The last picture shows a Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar Coin before it was turned into a ring.  It is not the exact coin.  This ring pictured is a Size 6 but can be made in any size.  Contact us to make your custom ring today.  
 
History of the Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar Coin
 
The Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar Coin was made from 1916 to 1947.   It was replaced by the Franklin Silver Half Dollar. In 1915, when Robert W. Woolley came into commission, he believed that when a coin design had been circulating for 25 years, it had to be replaced.  So, he set out to replace the Barber Silver Half Dollar Coin. Robert W. Woolley chose Adolph A. Weinman and Herman Macneil. Herman made the Standing Liberty Silver Quarter and Adolph made the Mercury Silver Dime.
 
The sun in the background proved difficult to perfect and even harder to strike. People believe that the "sower" design on the France coinage was his inspiration for the half dollar. Since the Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar was so hard to strike, many people believe that this was the reason it got replaced by the Franklin Silver Half Dollar.  A lot of people believe the Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar was a really beautiful design, but Art Historian, Cornelius Vermeule considered it to be the most beautiful piece of coinage in U.S history. Since 1986 a few modifications have been made to the obverse of the coin and its design was used on the American Silver Eagle Coin.  In 2016, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar had it's own gold centennial coin made.
